FWD Group (“FWD”), a pan-Asian life insurance company, is proud to extend its partnership with HI through Thrive Together: Empowering young people with disabilities in Asia. The project has now entered its second phase to empower young people with disabilities by enhancing their employability and financial prospects, while promoting more open, diverse and inclusive workplaces across the region.

Thrive Together phase two will launch in March 2022 in the Philippines, followed by Indonesia and Vietnam later this year. The multi-year project will work closely with FWD volunteers and local implementation partners, aligning with local government units, technical-vocational institutions, and business and trade associations to pave sustainable interventions, reaching at least 1,000 young people with disabilities by 2024.

The first phase of the project, ran from 2018 through 2021 and improved the lives of almost 400 young people with disabilities living in urban poor communities in the Philippines and Indonesia.

The project has already been providing social support, job training sessions, improved access to health and rehabilitative services, and ongoing coaching and support services to young people across Asia. Now the project will focus on financial literacy education and financial planning for participants and their family members to support their independence and development.

The project will also work with public and private sectors to promote inclusive workplaces, and assist them with hiring, retaining, and protecting the rights of people with disabilities in the workplace. FWD’s local business operations in the Philippines and Indonesia have already recruited eight employees and interns with disabilities and joined national and local business and disability networks, in cooperation with the International Labour Organization.

“At FWD, we embrace the value and culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through the Thrive Together Project, we’re empowering these young people to live fulfilled lives through financial education and connecting them with employers to develop a more diverse workforce and build a better future together,” said Huynh Thanh Phong, FWD Group CEO.

“Now more than ever, we have an opportunity to ensure that young people with disabilities can access their right to decent work. With fair and inclusive business support, where their skills are being recognised, young people with disabilities can work effectively and efficiently in businesses operations, and make contributions to companies and society,” concluded Twyla Raros David, HI Regional Project Manager.
