HI began working in Morocco in 1993 and is one of the few international NGOs to have signed a headquarters agreement with the Moroccan Ministry of Cooperation and Foreign Affairs (1999). For over 20 years, HI has supported the development of a strong network of organisations of people with disabilities (OPD), building their capacity for self-advocacy and action.
Since 2011, in a context of reforms, HI Morocco has been working closely with the authorities to foster the development and implementation of inclusive public policies. The programme’s collaboration has also been progressively extended to civil society organisations to promote inclusion and help meet the needs of other vulnerable groups. It is also working to improve the quality of life of vulnerable migrant populations by strengthening representative organisations and improving access to vital resources such as health actors and referral mechanisms.
In In the wake of the earthquake that struck the kingdom in the High Atlas region in September 2023, HI has also been providing physical and functional rehabilitation and mental health support. Our teams are working on capacity building for rehabilitation and mental health professionals to assist the populations affected by the earthquake via a network of local partners.
